New Cryogenics course at Bath University in collaboration with GKN Aerospace

A new and exciting CPD course being offered by the University of Bath’s Faculty of Engineering: CRYO – Cryogenic Engineering for Sustainable Flight, and to ask for your help in marketing it. This three-day course will run from the 20th to the 22nd of January 2026 and has been developed in collaboration with GKN Aerospace.

Design as an introductory programme, CRYO is ideal for professional engineers, graduates, technicians, managers, and supervisory staff who are new to cryogenic systems. The course provides a comprehensive foundation in cryogenic engineering, with a particular focus on its applications in sustainable aviation.

Key Learning Objectives:
- Understand the principles of cryogenic engineering
- Know how different materials react to cryogenic temperatures
- Understand super-conductivity
- Appreciate the challenges to reach and maintain cryogenic temperatures
- Be able to roughly size and select components for cryogenic systems
- Be aware of the fundamental health and safety rules

The course will be delivered by experienced industry professionals and academic experts, with guest speakers contributing specialist insights. There is no formal assessment, but participants must attend all sessions and engage in practical exercises to receive a Certificate of Competence.
