BCC Advanced Cryogenics Course 2026: A Resounding Success

6–8 October 2026 | UKRI-STFC Daresbury Laboratory, Cheshire

The British Cryogenics Council (BCC) successfully held its Advanced Cryogenics Course from 6 to 8 October 2026 at the UKRI-STFC Daresbury Laboratory in Cheshire.

Following a break in 2025, the highly successful three-day event built upon the Introductory Cryogenics Course held at Cosener’s House in October 2024. Designed for engineers and scientists with experience of low-temperature systems, the course brought together professionals from across the cryogenics community for three days of specialist learning, technical discussions and valuable networking opportunities.

The comprehensive programme covered an impressive range of subjects, reflecting the diversity and continuing development of cryogenic technology. Lectures were delivered on:

  • Cryostat operations
  • Multi-layer insulation
  • Instrumentation
  • High-voltage engineering at low temperatures
  • Software
  • Pipework
  • Industrial cryogenics
  • Helium production, liquefaction and storage
  • Cryogenics at large-scale research facilities
  • Ultra-low temperatures
  • Cryogenics for quantum technology
  • Cryogenics for astrophysics

The course was a tremendous success, providing delegates with an excellent opportunity to deepen their technical understanding, exchange practical experiences and explore developments across the industry. The breadth of topics and expertise shared throughout the programme demonstrated the importance of continued education and collaboration within the cryogenics sector.

The event also reinforced the BCC's commitment to supporting professional development, encouraging knowledge sharing and strengthening relationships between research establishments, academia and industry.

The British Cryogenics Council extends its sincere thanks to the expert lecturers for their time and contributions, to UKRI-STFC Daresbury Laboratory for hosting the event, and to all delegates whose participation helped make the Advanced Cryogenics Course 2026 such a success.
